Excellent structure and content. Really nice work! You do a great job setting up the context and driving curiosity through vivid details and thoughtful questions. Congrats!
"When playing the piano, the keyboard becomes one's Holy Grail. There's a moment when you just raise a white flag and you do not belong to yourself and simply belong to music, your fingers are your soldiers fighting for every note and emotion associated with every touch. It feels like you’re immersing yourself in melody and the whole journey feels like rafting - navigating through a turbulent mix of waves of emotions and sounds."
That's exactly how I feel: my hands and fingers "think" along with me. I can't think the same way without them if I'm trying to write! Dictating doesn't work the same way.
Nicely written article that succinctly raises many of the ethical concerns and challenges of emotional AI. I can’t help but wonder if every success in making robots seem more human only leads to humans becoming less so. Thomas Mann was onto something when he said ‘rob the average man of his life illusion and you rob him of his happiness’ - let’s hope Altman’s median humans exercise their agency ... and keep playing Chopin.
I must admit this article has captivated me so much that I have read it several times already. It is a wonderful piece of writing, Nat, and I have shared it with my friends. I was amazed by your video on Twitter where you played Taylor’s piano cover and Bach. I didn't know you have such a passion for classical music! Keep writing! Keep playing! Keep singing!
This piece brilliantly interweaves the complexities of human emotion with the potential of AI. There is an imminent risk though--AI with such capabilities is better at deceiving and manipulating humans, may it be for ads, hate, or the spreading of misinformation.
Thanks for the kind feedback and for highlighting that important aspect. AI is already good enough at deceiving and manipulating humans. As AI evolves to understand and emulate human emotions, the potential for misuse becomes a genuine concern. Mitigating such risks requires a multi-pronged approach. First of all, we should keep in mind "Regulation & Oversight".
Beautifully done. A major contribution!
Glad it resonated! Thanks for the feedback!

Nat, this made me think of writing:

Thanks for your kind feedback, dear Andrew. Perhaps that's the creative immersion and explosion that is the magic of art?
Maybe so. Maybe there's something to the idea that giving an LLM a physical body could accelerate AI becoming more... human-seeming?

Any thoughts on how to mitigate such usages?
